Barna-Botond Bíró: “The Romanian Tourism Fair is also an opportunity to showcase our county’s values, tourism services, and unique flavors.”

The 51st edition of the event will take place from 20-23 February 2025, in Bucharest, where Visit Harghita will be present with a record-sized 120-square-meter stand.

This year, Harghita County is focusing on showcasing its gastronomic assets, in line with its designation as the European Region of Gastronomy 2027.

“2027 presents an opportunity that contributes to the visions of local communities, encompassing not only gastronomy but also a wide range of tourism services. The Romanian Tourism Fair is an occasion where participants can experience Harghita County, discover our values, and explore our high-quality services,”

said Barna-Botond Bíró, President of the Harghita County Council.

For the first time this year, the County Council and the Harghita County Community Development Association invited numerous decision-makers, government members, senators, representatives, institution directors, and other influencers from Bucharest to visit the county’s stand.

The Visit Harghita stand will feature a unique live kitchen where visitors can taste local specialties. Each day, a renowned local restaurant will present signature dishes, such as Armenian soup flavored with hurut (soured whey), a magic cake with polenta and plums, Krausz artisan chocolates, and Jamy’s 100% natural fruit spirits.

Harghita County will also be represented at the fair by Mini Transylvania Park, Borsec, Oxygen Resort, Septimia, Hotel Fenyő and Szekler Kitchen & Garden.

“Domestic tourism is the main driver in Harghita County, and local entrepreneurs place great importance on local tourists. Therefore, it is essential to have a strong presence at the Romanian Tourism Fair. Our long-term goal is to make Harghita County an attractive tourist destination, focusing on nature-based experiences, gastronomy, and family-friendly tourism,”

said Károly Szabó, Managing Director of the Harghita County Community Development Association.

As previously reported, Harghita County was awarded the title of European Region of Gastronomy 2027 following the formal decision of the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts, and Tourism (IGCAT). The title was ceremonially received on 6 February 2025 by Barna-Botond Bíró, President of the Harghita County Council, during a major ceremony where the award was presented by Dr. Diane Dodd, President of IGCAT.

With this recognition, Harghita County joined the elite community of European regions known for outstanding gastronomic heritage, sustainable food networks, and living cultural traditions.
